Hi,

Finnlee and I are going to be moving across town by Nov 21, 2020. We are moving from an apartment into a one bedroom home. And I can finally get a fenced in yard so Finnlee can run and play without being on a leash all the time. Any tips and tricks for getting him used to the new place? My landlord is replacing our flooring and doing a few repairs. So we have time before the move.

If Finnlee is generally a pretty averaged relaxed dog, he will likely adjust quickly just by having his people around.

In a new home, its a good idea to refresh potty training (even for adult dogs) with restricted access to unsupervised free roam of the house for a few weeks.

Try to keep a similar schedule for meals, potty and bedtime.

Walk the yard carefully and look at the ground for any hazards like trash or broken glass, check the fenceline for holes or weak spots or places where a dog might have dug under it in the past.

Supervise free yard play for at least the first few months until you know if he might be a climber or a digger or tries to eat everything on the ground

I recommend a lock on any fence gate so it can't be opened by a person without your knowledge but check with the landlord about access needs for utility meter readers or similar.

Shell thanks for the great advice. It might be next spring/summer before my Dad and I can get the fence up. But I'll have a screened in front porch he can enjoy when the weather is nice. I'll definitely put a lock on the gate so no one can go in and out. My landlord is also my boss so she's pretty ease going with me but I'll make sure she has keys to every thing.
