My dad saw this man in Lowes today. He went up to him and talked to him because the man had what my dad thought looked like really big papillons. The man said "Yeah they're papillons, why do you have one" and my dad said "Yes my daughter has two" he said the man said "Females? 'Cause this one right here is looking for a girlfriend right now" (my dad said these dogs looked waaay bigger than Holly and J.C. and Holly is right at 11inches, so she's a big pap.) My dad said "Well she has one female but she's fixed, we don't want to breed dogs anyway" (my dad is pretty anti-breeding pets). The man said "Well, that was a wasted investment. Have fun with your useless dogs."


Wow. I almost didn't believe him when he told me.

Crack me up! I keep telling my friends that I have the wrong breed of dog to attract the kind of man I wish to attract. LOL

ladyshadowhollyjc: I can't tell you how often I have heard things like that. I had a guy at Petco willing to give me a thousand dollars to breed my male to his females. I was like... ??? Many years ago I had a different male that was over the breed standard for size. I got offered tons of money to breed him to other peoples dogs. Even a guy with a black Lab that wanted to breed my Rottie to his Lab. He just loved my dogs personality. People just never cease to amaze me by their greed and foolishness. Glad your dad was smart enough to know better.

That's almost the exact same conversation we had with some dummy at the boardwalk...

She first asked if Marge was a male, I said no, and she said she's looking for a male Labrador (yes she thought my skinny petite black and brown dog was a purebred lab) to breed to her female at home. So she can "keep it in the family"

I told her she better watch out for bad hips and that I don't believe in breeding pets. It went in one ear and out the other.

So far my logic is that women dig kids. Kids dig my dogs. My dogs are like kid magnets. Therefore dog attracts kids attract women. No luck so far. I try giving my dog pep talks and explaining to him that he needs to focus on the ladies. He cocks his head sideways like only dogs can and stares at me.

Hahaha... I tried to get my last dog, a trained herding GSD about 95 pounds, to herd up some single, good looking, younger guys who made decent money. Lets just say her idea of decent money and mine were vastly different......

I have heard of Fathers doing that to their daughters BF's..... (Starts with: Want to go up to the Huntin' camp with me this year BOY?)

Well, it is a logic flaw, not a dog flaw. Remember, when training a dog, it is NEVER the dog's fault. Just ask your Bassett. He would agree with me.

I dont have trouble believing that at all... I have heard it many times over. It's so unbelievably ignorant.

The first time I finally braved up and decided to go jogging with Callahan down my street (I take the dogs to James' neighborhood because many people around here steal male and female purebreds that they want for breeding) I had a man stop me and ask me if I bred Great Danes. I did my whole, "I dont breed or believe in BYBing" bit and he asked me how much money I would take to breed him. I said I would never do that... and that he will probably be neutered in a few months.

He then asked me how much I want for Callahan... "How much do you want for him right now? 100? 300? Before you ruin a perfectly good dog. Dont you know how much you can make with his puppies?!"

Uggh... I got my phone out and told him I was calling the sheriff if he didnt drive off now. So since then (1 month ago) we've bought 2 Surveillance Cameras for outside and set up the video to the Desktop computer in my home. Just to be safe.

Sigh... I hate ignorants.
So yea... I have no trouble believing someone said that...

When we first moved here, my neighbor asked me if LeRoy was a girl pitbull because he has a male that he would like to have mated. I just shrugged my shoulders and said LeRoy is a neutered American Bulldog.

Ha! Try living here, I hear it all the time. Oh, they're willing to admit that maybe the mutts should be fixed (except that Penny is so pretty!), but, oh, "what a waste" to have my purebred Rott neutered! And once someone approached me at work to ask if I owned "that Rott near the park", and whether he was female or not, because her dog---again---was "looking for a girlfriend". Her Rott was ugly, too. He had a weird ear set and his eyes looked wrong. But, no, I never have any trouble believing the stupid things people say about dogs.

Evidently the only "useful" dog is one you can make money off of.

Wow... With so many people out there breeding out of standard pups, how can people who show, then breed to standard, ever hope to keep the standard the way it is? The numbers are so against responsible breeders, how is it that their breed doesn't change before their very eyes?
