i have a 9 year old male dachshund/terrier mix who has been nuetered.
ever since last year, i have noticed that his penis is ALWAYS showing.
he has never been bred before. would anyone know what could be the problem here?

You could always contact your vet and ask that question but it seems some dogs just do that. It doesn't seem to matter if a dog is neutered or not, some just "hang out." I have heard that some do this more when they are ill but I have seen plenty of perfectly healthy dogs do this. I have had some of my own do this just when they are real relaxed. I have thought about knitting a little cap for the nasty little thing. I wish dark colored dogs had dark colored ones. I can't stand looking at the little pinkies.

Butch has this problem sometimes too...one of the reasons I prefer females to males.

Cupid had this problem when I first got him. He ended up having a big bladder stone; I think this is also common with UTIs. I would take your guy to a vet to rule out a medical problem. May not be medical, but it's better to know.
