Hi everyone! I am a new member here. I stumbled across this site while looking at other dog lover forums as I was spreading the word about a campaign I started to help raise money to get my service pup out of impound. So here I am, a dog owner who is desperately missing her service dog. I am prior law enforcement with PTSD so you can image how unsettled I have been without him.

On Sunday I got a knock on the door, my heart sank when I opened it to see an animal control officer standing there. The officer explained that he had a report of a dog bite from an animal reported to be at my residence. I explained to the officer that a few days before my german shepherd service dog was at my side while I was bringing groceries in and he had followed after a young lady who had been walking in front of my house but had immediately became hesitant when the girl reached out to pet his head so I escorted him back to the house and the young lady went on her way. The officer said the lady claimed there was a dog bite on the lady from behind her and that he was required to detain my dog for a mandatory 10 day quarantine. As you can imagine my heart was broken. My dog has never bad an aggressive moment in his life and often seeks attention and cuddles from everyone he encounters including strangers! For now I'll spare the complicated technicalities animal control is basing their decision on but they took our pup to a shelter 20 miles away. My dog is an AKC registered pure bred german shepherd who comes from a long line of police K9 service dogs and he is a service dog himself (for PTSD) which has been hard to deal with without him being home. I've called the shelter they took my dog to and was able to get a quote for their impound fees, quarantine fee and housing fee for the 10 days and I'm looking at $300 to get him back. I didn't realize just how much my PTSD disability relied on him until he was gone. I feel as if my dog has wrongfully been accused which is a seperate battle in itself but my priority now is just getting my dog back so that I can tackle the next hurdle with the comfort of knowing I still have my dog by my side.

And now I'm curious. :) *must... resist*

So sorry about that... was it ever determined if there was or wasn't a bite? I'm surprised that one complaint would result in a quarantine.

I would be on the phone with ADA or the VA if you are military related organizations to get assistance. There has to be local representations......

If she claimed there was a bite, doesn't she have to prove there's a bite before the dog is seized and quarantined? This whole thing seems weird.

Um yeah, that part doesn't sense. At all.

Plus, why would you need to quarantine a dog that was up to date on his vaccines? Isn't quarantine done to prove the dog doesn't have rabies in cases where they aren't up to date on vaccines?

Trust me, none of it makes sense to me either. The report claims that there was a minor skin break although there was no blood it looked to be more like a scrape then an actual puncture wound. To me the area that they said it was located in makes no sense at all since my dog had no contact with the young lady in that area to begin with. He has a tag on his collar with his vacillation record dates but because it was a Sunday and the vet clinic was closed they couldn't very the information so they had to take him. None of it makes sense and I've spent the week fighting with just about everyone who is involved since it all seems unnecessary to me. I feel the parents of the young lady possibly fabricated the story since most people out here try to land law suits for stuff like that.
