My dog seems to have lost his sense of smell which affects his eating. At times, I have to force feed him with a syringe. He won't eat dog food at all. I'm making home made food with meat and vegetables but even that he eats sparingly. He's had many tests and everything is negative. He had a stroke last June from which he recovered. The Vet and a neurologist thought he might have had another stroke, undetectable, but one which affected his eating.

Does anyone have any ideas about how to get him to eat? Has anyone had a similar problem

Brendan is a 14 year old rescue dog -- a shih tzu. Thanks.

I've been monitoring this for a month now and I know my dog's usual behavior and his love of food. Since there is nothing medically wrong, I'm trying to think of other alternatives. If he smells something very pungent or salty, he sometimes eats whatever it is -- lasagna, pizza. He's been on an appetite stimulant and anti-nausea meds for 2 weeks. They probably help but he's not getting any better. I welcome suggestions.
