Long schnoodle ears

I have a schnoodle who favors a schnauzer. I want his ears to gros long like a poodles. He is almost 2 and I have cut them really short about 3 times- now in the process of letting them grow. Does anyone have experience with this and about how long should it take. His topknot is very curly and ear hair is I would say wavy. Thanks for any input
