Short, long, retractalbe, etc.I use a six foot long leash.I had a short two foot one when I had when I had my Bull Mastiff.I might use the shorter one when she gets full grown. IMO,it makes long walks easier for people who have trouble walking like myself. I know many will disagree. The leashes I use are very thick and strong. I don't want my dog to break free form the leash. Is there a certain one you might recomend?

well i've got a rottweiler and i use a 6-foot long, really thick leash, i'm not sure of the brand but pet supermarket carries it. i usually just keep him really close to me instead of getting a shorter leash....makes it easier to walk lol :)

This is the leash we used before the dogs got good at leash walking:

It has an extra loop near the dog's head that you can grab if you need a little extra control.
We use that one, too. I would highly recommend it for the extra handle. I also use 30 ft training leads (sometimes hooked together to make a 60 ft lead) to give her a little more room to roam when I want to combine training with a walk. I have a retractable leash as well, but don't use it much. My dog is trained not to pull so when she feels the tug of the retractable, she automatically backs off and ends up on too short of a leash unless I pull out about 6 ft and lock it. Don't see the point of that. Plus, the retractables I've seen are awkward to hold and can slip out of your hand too easily. OK for little dogs who can't pull very hard, but not big ones, IMO.
