my in-laws have a little chihuahua/westie mix that theyve fed kibbles-n-bits to since i met them. but recently they went to petsmart to get some item they couldnt find at walmart and my mother-in-law asked a sales rep' where the kibbles were, and he advised them to not use it! he said that is is "the fast food of dog food" and that it lacks nutrition. so my in-laws came home with purina one "smart blend".. its a step up! i was happy to hear they actually took interest in their dogs health! after a year of me vehemently telling them my dog wasnt allowed to eat their dogs food when i visited [they thought it was due to teaching manners, but really i just didnt want winston eating that stuff!] and hinting that canids shouldnt eat grain.. they listened! kind of!

ok, its not that much of an improvement. but its the thought that counts, and i can see progress! that little dog has some cesar-worthy problems and im proud to see her getting a little bit more concern.

That's awesome, congrats to your in-laws.

Maybe you can take advantage of their new-found interest in dog food by talking to them about even better feeding options? Purina may be a step up, but (in my humble opinion) it's still garbage.

Either way, good for them for doing something.
i dont want to push them too far! my father-in-law probably balked about it the whole car ride home, im sure. he doesnt think the dog deserves anything more expensive than the cheapest food available [cheap as in low cost]. because shes a dog.

but oh, how i would love to see them feeding taste of the wild.. i remember when my husband and i were staying with them. i would bring home the big bags of totw and my father-in-law would sit there staring at me like i was dragging a dead deer inside. he told me to just use the food they had for their dog. i politely declined.

Can't imagine how he would react to seeing my Cosmo eat raw meat from the grocery store! ;)
