Had the worst week ever, had to have my beautiful dog amber put to sleep on monday,i,m heartbroken:Cry:.
It came as a shock i noticed she was starting to struggle up and down steps with her back legs, she was 14 so thought it might be old age.i took her to the vets along with her daughter rosie who,s 12.
the vet said it was probabley arthiritis,he felt her leg and said it was,nt fractured or she would have cried in pain when he felt it.gave me medicine and did a biopsy with needle on rosie who has a lump,so i was relieved about amber and worried for rosie.had a call from the vet who said rosie has cancer.
took them both back the following week because amber ankle had started to swell and she was limping.was given antibiotics as vet said it may be a infection in her leg.
vet also gave me the bad news that they would,nt remove rosie,s tumer as this would cause cancer cells to spread through her blood stream and the tumor would return more agressive.
took amber back to vets monday and insisted on an xray as she was holding her leg up and hopping about on 3 legs.
i was sure she would return with a pot on,so it was a massive shock when the vet phoned and said bone cancer had eaten away at her bone and there was no bone left in her ankle.i had 2 minutes to make the decision to have her put to sleep while she was still under anasthetic.
it ripped my heart out ,i feel like i did,nt get a chance to say goodbye,i know i did what was best for my ambie and she was loved and she knew this,it breaks my heart that it was missed and she must have been in pain(even tho she never stopped eating
) she loved her food.
rosie is heartbroke too and moping she,d never been away from her mommy and the had a strong bond.
I just dont know how i,m going to face losing her too,the vet said she could last 2/3 yrs without it bothering her, she,s healthy and fit in every other way and its not bothering her.
has anyone else got a pet with a mammary tumor that is still going strong.
sorry for the long post, just need some hope.
