Today got off on the wrong foot, i woke up to a couple piles of diarrhea with a LOT of blood mixed in, a short time after that while i was looking up a walk in vet, she did it again in front of the door.
After i found a vet, i was on my way with Sam to go get checked over, it's odd because she seemed perfectly fine other than the extreme amount of blood in her stools, her tail was still wagging and she was looking forward to the car ride.
After we got there, Sam had another accident on the floor in the exam room so the vet could see what we were dealing with, the vet did a parvo test that came back negitive and a hook worm test that came back clean.
It turned out that somehow Sam had torn up her intestines, my suspicion is the rawhide bone she wolfed down splintered and since she has been eating the new brand of food i bought her and had diarrhea there was nothing to cushion the jagged bone in her intestines, after returning from the vet i all but confirmed it when i looked in her crate where she likes to sleep, i found jagged pieces of the rawhide she had puked up recently.
The vet told me to not let her eat anything until Monday and when i DO feed her, to give her Instant potatoes mixed with low fat Cottage Cheese for 5 days, they gave me some powder with the type of good fungus that yogurt has and said to put it n her food to help the healing, i got antibiotics to avoid an infection and a couple other things as a precaution.
Before leaving they gave Sam some fluids under her skin so that she would be less likely to be dehydrated, now she is packing a little extra bulk (like a camel) with the added fluid, i am also giving her Pepto Bismol to help with the diarrhea and stomach in the meantime.
They said that surgery did not seem to be needed but she gave me her cell number just to be 100% safe and told me to call any time, day or night, in the end i owed about $205 for the vet trip (which is a great price in my opinion)
Ill be keeping a close eye on Sam for quite a while now, hopefully she will heal up nicely and be back to normal soon.
