Just got a new puppy (9 weeks old)

Just got a Shih Tzu yesterday and to my surprise she's already weewee pad trained. We confined her to a little area in the kitchen and put her crate in the area with the door open. She's got her food and wee wee pad in that area.

We barricade it off when we went to sleep last night and she just kept crying. Should I just ignore her? Is it something she'll get over?

Also this morning when we left for work, she kept following us into every room and kept licking out foot. When we left and put her back in her area, we can hear her cry from outside.

Any advice????

Thanks

I doubt she is fully potty trained, so definitely expect some accidents lol. Wee wee pads can make house breaking harder because it teaches them that they just have to pee on a soft mat-like thing. To them, that could be a t shirt on the floor, carpet, towel, etc.

Also, do you leave the food in with her at night? I would not do that, she could choke during the night and anytime you aren't there like during work. She is still such a baby, and bought pretty young too. Small breeds are typically sold at around 12 weeks, they need that extra time with their momma.

At night, I would put her in her crate in your bedroom. She will be calmer because she will sense you and hear you breathing, and being crated will help will the potty training a bit.

You said you leave for work, how many hours is she alone?
