Jumping and nipping

I have noticed that our 3 month old Shih Tzu gets a little crazy in the evenings. I believe he is just overtired and excited. He won't settle for an evening nap as he needs to follow me around. He then becomes super hyper and the moment i sit on the sofa. He will jumps and nip at my feet. He becomes a different puppy(aggressive puppy)
I am wondering if i should just put him in his crate for his evening naps. The majority of his naps are in is crate.

any suggestions?

Yes, if he can't settle down (try to give him a toy), in the crate.
