When I went to the speciality in Ohio, the BF and I were invited to join in the local samoyed breed club.

However, we don't have a puppy, and I'm not sure what I could possibly contribute, let alone the BF, who is leaving most of this puppy process up to me.

Has anyone ever joined the breed club before they got their puppy/dog? If so, do you feel like it made the process of choosing a puppy/kennel easier for you?

Were there any other benefits?

Were there any downsides?

Thanks for any and all replies.

I've never belonged to a breed club for my breed. there arn't any in this area and I couldn't justify paying extra fees to be a member when my current all breed club works just fine for me

If you're invited, go for it. (I plan to renew my membership in the regional cardi club this summer - I have to wait for the specialty to fulfill my meeting-attendence requirement- because I still love the breed and want to support their events- I'll own another one someday.)

Some national clubs do not have memberships (or have limited memberships) for non-owners.
