Hello from Corvallis, Oregon!
I am a first-time dog owner and I adopted Kit from a shelter about four months ago. She's around 11 months old and a border collie mix of some kind - pointer maybe?
Kit was definitely a handful at first because she had bounced from home to home, with short periods in the shelter in between. I blame the economy for this, not her. Anyway, no one had taken the time to teach her anything.
The good news is that we've been through basic obedience now and I'm shocked at what a great dog she's becoming. She loves visits to the dog park, meal time, frisbee, long hikes, tennis balls, belly rubs, swimming, learning tricks - just about anything I can dream up. I'm so lucky to have stumbled upon such a great first dog! I'm probably hooked for life, now :-O
