Introducing a bed to a puppy so we can move out of a crate

Hi everyone! Our 5 month old sprocker pup is doing great and loves her crate but we’re trying to think ahead a bit as she’s growing so quickly! What’s the best way to introduce and start to get her sleeping on a bed outside of the crate? She really loves her crate and often takes herself there for naps in the day. We’ve got a few months yet but trying to plan ahead :) thanks

Why do you need to remove the crate altogether? My dogs have beds scattered throughout the house, but their crates are still there as an option for them. If she's outgrowing her crate and is now housetrained, you can replace it with a larger one that will accommodate her at adult size. The ability to happily rest in a crate is a very good skill for a dog to have, no matter how old they are.

I would get an adult dog sized crate and let her have her crate. It is viewed by the dog as "my place of calm."

If the issue is Aesthetics there are crates that look like end tables or furniture.

If she really loves the crate, I wouldn't remove it completely. Put it in a different room and leave it open. I replaced my dog's crate with a bed when he was around one year old because our bedroom was small and I didn't want a huge crate in it. He had also proven at that point that he wasn't going to get into trouble when not supervised. He already knew what a bed was because we have them throughout the house and he had been trained a "go to bed" cue.

When I moved the crate downstairs, he naturally gravitated to the bed because it was comfy and he likes to nap on them. He was a little restless at first without being locked in the crate...it was almost like he wasn't sure what to do with himself when he wasn't forced to stay in one place. So, we closed the door to our bedroom so he was less tempted to wander, told him "go to bed", rewarded, and then ignored him. He did eventually settle.
