Aoki is in heat........

Aoki seems to have started this about 10 days ago.

Her vulva is very swollen and has been for over a week. She has done some bleeding and seems to be OK - BUT the swelling seems extreme.....I could goes as far as take a pic if needed. I just want to be sure this is pretty normal. I am considering calling the Vet. She ia Pom, is 6 months and weighs 6 lbs. (I will be getting her neutered soon)

sounds to me that she is in the "standing" part of the heat....there should be almost no bloody show, just a light pink discharge, at this time....and now is where you have to be EXTREMELY diligent in watching her (you need to thru the whole cycle, of course, but now is her most fertile/enticing stage.....the whole cycle, from start to finish, is ruffly 21 days but don't figure you're safe for a month (start to finish).....recommend not spaying till at least 6 wks after her season, the bleeding can be more severe....
