Hey Guys!! Looong time no see. This past semester has been majorly hectic, but it's over now and so I think I'll stick around this time!
For those of you who haven't been around for more than the 4+ months I've been gone, I'll introduce myself. My name's Kasey, and I LOOOVE dogs.
I'm a puppy raiser for Guide Dogs of America, meaning that I take the puppies for 15-18 months and pretty much just prepare them to be guide dogs. My first puppy was Jaylie, and she was dropped from the program at 9 months old because of an eye problem. It doesn't affect her at ALL as a pet, so she's living the good life on 3 1/2 acres in Northern California. My second pup, Blitz was dropped from the program just a couple months ago after a month of formal training because of a thyroid problem. He's all better now, and living with some friends of mine less than 2 miles from my house with another lab!
I have now been puppiless for about TEN months. (Wow, weird to think of it that way...) During that time, I was still involved with puppy raising, by being my support group's official "puppy-sitter." That way, I still got my puppy fixes, even though I was technically taking a break. I'm scheduled to get my next puppy, Camano (Male Black Lab) in 11 days! I'm MAJORLY psyched. That's part of the reason I'm here...I've been without a young puppy (crate training, house training, leash training, TRAINING) for about 2 years now...I need to brush up on some facts.
Anyway, it's good to be back!! Hoping to get as addicted to this place as I was before.
