This little dude was in the adoptions section at Petco. The employee said that his previous owners were "feeding" him (I don't know if he actually ate any) crickets!. Because they tried to give him a mouse but he refused, so they decided "he doesn't like mice". Doh! I don't know what's wrong with people. There's an entire Internet out there, hmm? He's skinny, but not on-death's-door skinny, not sure how long his previous owners had him. The employee said he ate 2 fuzzies 5 days ago, but after I got him home last night he was cruising so I offered him an adult mouse, and he hit that thing like. . .like a ball python who has been looking at crickets for a few months? Lol. So now he's chilling with a big mouse lump in his middle. He has pretty markings, and I always wanted a normal, so I guess now I got him. He weighed 122 grams before he ate.

The funniest thing is that the adoptions employee marked him as "special needs" because "he's so shy!". I said, "oh, like a ball python, huh?" :p, and she said no, he's shyer than the ones they have for sale. But he popped right out after I held him for a couple minutes and right now is poking his head out of his hide whenever I walk past his tank (hoping for another mouse? Haha), so I don't think he's all that shy. But whatever. Don't argue with under-trained teenage Petco employees, lol.

He came with his tank and that awful repti-carpet, need to get rid of that real quick.

Good for you and interesting to read about his care.
Not a snake person, they tend to give me the heebie jeebies, but that might be because at least once a year, I almost step on one of our resident black rat snakes when I get out of the car to open the gates. I don't know if he/she screams, but I tend to do a little dance in the other direction, before going to get my camera.

OK, question for snake people! I know I should probably ask on the snake forum but I lost my password and am too lazy to reset it right now :p.

It's been 6 months now. She (I arbitrarily assigned her as female so her name can be Shirley, lol) is a good eater and takes an adult mouse or rat pup every week without fail. She won't eat more often than that but has never turned one down after 7 days. She's doubled her weight, up to 250g now, and is quite fat and round, but hasn't actually grown---her head hasn't grown at all and I don't think she's gotten longer either (although that's hard to tell). She has only shed once since I got her, and only poops once every 6 or 7 feedings. Is it normal for a neglected snake to take a while to start growing again? Is it possible for BPs to get truly stunted?
