Ruby will be 4 months old on the 10th of April...She was treated for a UTI almost 2 weeks ago, since than she has taken off in house training, she hasn't had a mistake in the house in about a week. She now consistantly goes to the door and barks or sits there. I take her out every hr she is awake whether she is at the door or not. Every time she goes to the door I praise her and take her out.

I would like her to go a little longer than an hr and figure at almost 4 months old she should be able to handle it and hold it a little longer. How is the best way to do this? Do i gradually increase the time, so like every 90 mins for a week than 2hrs, or should I stop taking her out and just wait for her cue?

She is able to hold it from about 9:45pm - 6am...sometimes she will wake me up at about 5am to go but thats it.

So how would I help her hold it a bit longer, or is it to soon, should I maybe not mess around if it's working. I can't remember what my other dog did, he is almost 5 and I think he just started asking on his own but not sure.

It sounds like she is doing pretty good.
At four months old she should only be expected to hold it for 4-5 hours max. The rule of thumb for them to hold it is one hour for every month.
Continue to keep an eye on her and just let her out every 3/4 hours or when she asks to go. If you want to just add 2 minutes a day to the amount of time she can hold it... You seem to have a good handle on things. Good luck and keep up the good work.

She is doing really well and I think thats my issue, I haven't ever had a dog train so fast. I know poodles are smart but she is still a baby...I think I am hesistant for fear that she may backstep but taking her out less would be nice as well, not watching the clock would be even nicer lol.

I'm having the same trouble with Luna. I think sometimes they get into the habit of going all the time during the UTI, so they just continue to do it after it's gone.

To be sure the UTI hasn't reoccurred, I would take a urine sample in to your vet just to be on the safe side.

Otherwise... I'll await responses to your thread because I'm having similar issues. Luna's 4 months old (large breed puppy) and usually goes about an hour and a half or so between pee breaks. She holds it for up to five hours during the day, and 8 hours or so at night (though their bodily functions do slow down during sleep, so this accounts for some of the extra time).

We've tried ignoring her... but sometimes she really does have to go and potties on the floor...

ETA: whoops, I thought you said she was asking to go every hour... in that case I wouldn't take her out every hour... I'd increase the time and just keep an eye on her. If she's showing signs of looking for a place to go, take her out. ;-)
