a week or two ago I made a thread asking desperately how I could get my dane, gabby, to eat. I was trying all kinds of things and taking any suggestions.
I gave her ibuprofen until i was informed it was bad and was even scared she had gotten a stomach ulcer from it.
Obviously it hasnt been long enough for her to gain 30 or so lbs but shes doing it!! I found the problem. The vet told us to keep her inside so she wouldnt play with the other two and use her hurt leg. Someone in the thread even recommended isolating her to make sure theres no fight for food.
THIS WAS THE PROBLEM. be aware this could apply to your dog too!!
Dog have personalities and feelings! My dog was depressed. She was inside all day. She came inside when i got home (around 5 pm) and went back outside when My mom went to work (between 8am and 12 noon)
I didnt think anything of it until the other day. She only spends around 5 hours a day with her sisters!! I decided to stop keeping her in the house and now her tails waggin all the time and she eats anything i offer her!
I just wanted to update her health and let everyone know this is a very possible thing and could apply to many problems.

Does your vet know you gave her ibuprofen? Has she been checked since? Not trying to scare you but ibuprofen is extremely toxic to dogs. There is a recent thread here by another member whose dog is having serious kidney problems from one ibuprofen pill and I had a GSD die from one.
Glad to hear your dogs is eating well now but please talk to your vet about her and the ibuprofen. This is very serious.

yeah I went over it in that thread. I took her off it and she wasnt suffering from any of the symptoms plus she is a Dane so she has fairly big organs that handled the Two a day for a week or so pretty well. I called the vet and he said if she shows no signs of a stomach ulcer or kidney problems then she is probably fine. Plus I dont have the money to get a blood test anyways since I already spent almost 2 grand trying to get her leg fixed ...which it didnt.
Isn't it cool when you figure things out. Makes ya feel like a good dog mom.:)
