There is an ad on my local Craigslist where someone is getting rid of 2 day old lab pups. Seems the mom isn't producing milk, yeah I know they need to take her to the vet and see if anything can be given to help her. But she is trying to dump the pups for $50 each. I will NOT NOT NOT give her one penny for the pups but I would take them and try and raise them. I've never handfed a puppy, did it for a baby skunk once. What is the chance that the pups will actually make it? I know its time consuming but my thought is will the pups even make it.

I would actually report the ad to the local humane society. They may be able to go in and take the mama and pups and help save them all based on animal neglect. I doubt the mama is not making milk. THese people just saw a payday and didn't want to wait 8 weeks. If my mama dog was not making milk I would be buying puppy formula not selling them. Poor things likely barely have their eyes open yet.

Some People here are dumb when it comes to such things as handfeeding. At 2 days old no they don't remotely have their eyes open. I am trying to get a phone number from her right now because of course I was going to report it but I don't know what they would do. My thought was just try and get the pups before this person dumped them on a dirt road somewhere, which happens a lot. It was on the news here last spring about just how many litters of puppies and kittens were found dead on dirt roads.

She said I was the only one that seemed to know what I was talking about so she could take $85 for 2. I asked her to text me pictures so that I can get her number. I told her with the cost of handfeeding formula plus the risk that the pups may not make it I just couldn't pay anything for them but that I wanted to help. I'm trying to worm my way into her giving me the pups for free.

Yeah I would call the local or nearest SPCA or animal welfare association & see what they can do, beyond that I would know what else to do other then offering $50 for pups & mom, it would be better if she was with the pups.

You can also report the ad to criagslist I believe.

Ask to go see the pups and mom. then take pics when you get there. Then go call AC, and tell them you will take Mom and puppies to foster, and file a complaint. Since you took pics, you have proof of residence and that they were there in case owner dumps them.Taking the mom will help, because even if she isn't producing milk, she can help raise/clean them. The pups need a vet, because if they didn't get Colostrum, they will need to have their ICG levels boosted/plasma.

I didn't think to offer to take the mom and the pups. She sent me a panic email talking about she had no money for the vet, that she was going to take the dog to the vet and she got bred before they got the money, yeah yeah excuses. There are 9 of them, holy smokes I can't handfeed 9 pups. I am trying to play on her and I am trying to get them. I will keep you guys posted. She said she works and has a 1yr old child and she just can't handle it.

I got a Rat Terrier pup when he was only three days old, because his mother died the day after having them. I fed him warm milk from a baby bottle. He lived 13 years until a neighbors dog broke from its fence, came onto our property and killed him. Try your hardest to get those pups, and the mom too if you can. Get them to the shelter or try your best to do what you can. It's not the best thing, but my three day old dog, turned into my thirteen year friend, so... it can happen if you know what you're doing.

I bottle fed and raised a litter of 6 newborns that were dumped in a UHaul blanket next to the RR tracks in the desert. Found all of them homes but kept one. He turned out to be the smartest, best dog ever. Lived to be 17 yrs old, and played Frisbee up until about 3 months before he had to be put down. (He was a husky/shepherd/red heeler mix).

Ok I just got a text from her she says I can have 2 if I want to come get them. So I'm waiting for directions and then going to get them. And I guess stopping off to grab some formula. I've heard you can make your own way cheaper so I will look into that.

I had been waiting and waiting sitting on pins and needles for her to text her address. Then she texts and says I'm just really tired and my house isn't clean so I really don't want anyone here but tomorrow I get some money and I can meet you some where. At this point I think she is full of it,and I'm probably not going to get any of them but she actually has went as far as sending pictures of the pups and of the parents. Not bad looking labs, not show dogs but I've seen worse. Both parents look fat and happy. She said after she posted the ad on Craigslist she got scared when people said they were going to call the police on her. I told her I wasn't about all the drama that I just wanted to help her and help the pups. So I'm on hold to see what tomorrow morning brings.

It sounds like she is playing games with you IMO, I would call her & give her an ultimatum, either fork them over or YOU will call the authorities. At this point I hope she does get busted, at least the SPCA has the resources to care for a family that young.

Option 2 (again this is what I would do, just one laymen animal lover's opinion) is if she keeps giving you the run around then I would give her info to the proper authorities if they don't know all ready those pups & their poor mom deserve better then this.... What an idiot lady..... Formula isn't that expensive :/.
