My dog, Shadow, is so weird......

He knows the command "WC" to potty when we are on walks. Typical male dog will lift his leg to water as high as possible.

This morning's walk he added a new wrinkle. A little background first. Yesterday was extremely hectic at work, I was exhausted. We did our usual evening routine with a walk at 6:00 pm and the final at 11:00 pm before bed. Well, I crashed into a deadman sleep before 11. Woke up with the alarm this morning. Shadow had created a lake in the kitchen. My fault. Did the clean up, feed, then walk.

We are outside, Shadow is sniffing about. I give the command "Shadow, WC", he sniffs a bit more, lifts leg about half mast and puts his leg down again.......then he gives me a look. His look conveys to me, "you are an idiot, I'm already empty." I have a laugh and we continue our walk. So, he knows the command "WC", but is impish enough to just go through the motions.......

He also plays the retrieve my toy game. The living room furniture is arranged in an L shape. At the corner is a small table with a gap between the table and wall. Shadow will play with a toy, hop up on the chair and drop the toy into the gap. Then he stands there looking at me. I do my best to ignore, but he is an insistent schnauzer. He ups the anty with little whines, I ignore, he comes to stand on me and talks to me with a little woof. So, I retrieve the toy and we have a bit of play. I remember our toddlers doing this when in a high chair, knock something off, yowl until you pick it up, knock off again, pick up, knock off.........while sitting there smiling.

I'm sure other dogs have quirks that reveal their personality. Anyone else with dogs and odd traits?

I don't think those behaviors are weird but smart. I have one Rottie girl now who also IMO is like that. The latest she's doing is if she's outside and wants in, but I've changed my clothes and dressed to go out while she was in the yard, I open the door, she takes one look, reverses course, and heads for the car. So far she hasn't avoided coming in if I call her and disappoint her hopes of coming with me, but I'm waiting for her to try that next.

Mikee is a Lab mix. Retrievers are known for licking. So, Mikee will lick people while they pet him, but he will lick once [Thankyou!] when someone scratches that one right spot. His unusual behavior is that after he drinks some water, he will seek out some bare skin to lick and 'dry off' [?] his tongue. Never seen that behavior in another dog, and when we're sitting with friends, we make 'bets' on whom he will baptize. ;-)

After our dog poops and comes in the house, she sprints like a maniac back and forth down the hallway. She grabs the first toy that squeaks and just goes berserk. It's hilarious. She's only 40# but I have to stay clear when my wife brings her back in.
