I decided today to go out shopping by myself. Pretty big event for me since I really hate being in public alone. I just feel weird. Anyways... I needed some new work shirts and pants (Gosh kackies and Red T-shirts are impossible to find!) so I headed out to our mall. Didn't find anything at all.

On my way out I happened to look over and see this guy holding a red puppy and box next to him. There was 3 more Red/Red nose Pit Bull Puppies in the box. All of them were in bad shape too. Bloated Tummies, Runny eyes, didn't even move when I petted them. The one even had a white spot on his nose that made him look just like Nubs. I sat down and cried.

I tried to talk the guy into giving me the littlest one that was in the worst shape, but he refused to let them go for less then $150 and I refuse to give money to greedy people like that. They didn't even have their first shots yet. They guy was like "Shots? What shots? They don't need no freaking shots."

It was Sunday so Animal Control isn't working, and our police department has had a bad habit of killing Pit Bulls on sight including puppies. I felt horrible. I really pray that Karma hits that guy 6 times over. One for every puppy and the 2 parents that he breeds. I came home and just cuddled with Nubs. Poor pups more then likely won't make it. Sadly I hope they die quickly over what else could happen to them.

Awww what a shame. It's too bad you had to witness that, and I too hope the puppies find caring homes or pass on quickly.

I bet Nubs loved the extra cuddles.

After writing a column back in the 80's for animals, and being given information for same, NOTHING surprises me.

Back then it was GSD cross puppies and cats.

Now it is Pit Bull, Am. Staffie or crosses and it is still cats.

Sorry you had to have this experience DM. Tis never a good thing to know (yet again) that abuse and neglect combined with ignorance inflicted by people continues to cause suffering.

That must have been rough. I can understand him/her not wanting to get rid of the puppies for less than $150 though. It doesn't necessarily make him/her greedy. Unfortunately not everyone knows how to raise puppies! Hopefully he hasn't abused the puppies and he's doing his very best and if so, how could you not want to get something for the costs and time you've already endured. And you have to realize that a lot of people also won't GIVE away a puppy because when you give a puppy to someone that hasn't made any investment in it, they often don't commit to it and the puppy ends up in a shelter.

If they were asking $400 I would agree, but $150 is ALMOST giving the dog away. Anyway, I hope that this is the case and not just that this person is greedy (raising puppies for $150/ea wouldn't be very profitable).

According to the OP (Original post) the guy did not have any of the pups shots done and believes that dogs do not need shots. Also the pups looked to be in bad health so I would say the guy was not giving them away at $150. He was only doing it for profit and nothing to do with the welfare of the dogs.

You should have asked his phone number and said "I'll think about it and call you on what I think." Then Monday call the animal police. Poor little pups. I hate people that do things to inocent animals.

I'm so sorry to hear about this Unfortunately, around where I live, at flea markets they do similar things to that and on one even thinks twice about it because it is done so often. I remember one time I was driving by the out skirts of the flea market in my car and there was a lady that had a Mother Dachshund and five tiny babies all squished in this one cage and she was selling the puppies that couldn't have been more than four weeks old...I contacted our local animal police but they wouldn't do anything about it....it's just sickening what people will do for money...

Some people are just so greedy and horrid. I am sorry you had to witness it. More importantly, I am sorry that this is allowed to continue. I wish I had an answer as to how to stop these retched people.

Maybe he wanted the money for "other" purposes if you know what I mean. So basically he just wanted enough money to get what he needed at the expense and health of those innocent puppies. There is such a thing as KARMA. what goes around comes around. I hope he falls down a ditch and breaks every bone in his body just to have the doctor say to him...Shots? You don't need no freaking shots. Hopefully he'll get rabies from a rabid raccoon.

I wish I thought of that. I was too pissed off at the shape the puppies were in and all the people crowding around going "awww... I wish I had $150 to buy one"

I doubt the runt made it though the night. Poor thing

I have to admit, I would've called the police. I know you say that they kill pit bulls, but I honestly think these pups have very little chance of having good quality of life.
