I live with my husky in an flat, however in weekends I go with the dog at my mom's house and she has a lot of birds and rabbits. She has chickens, ducks, turkeys, geese, guinea fowls, and rabbits. Yesterday he killed and ATE a duck(The birds are enclosed, however one little (relatively new born) duck escaped). My husky just took that duck that escaped in teeth and chewed the bird while the duck was alive(Sorry for the horror image). Then the dog swallowed half of the bird, then the rest. My mom understood that he is a dog and wasn't angry. Today morning before I and my mom wake up(the dog sleep out while we are visiting my mom), he went to the rabbit cages, then ripped the wire netting and killed a rabbit and ate most of it. When I went outside, I saw the cage ripped, and rests of something that was a rabbit. The rest of the rabbits that were in the cage were running in the yard. The husky could have killed all, but after one he was full and let the rest alive.
I understand that the instincts are telling him to hunt small animals, however there should be a way to stop this behavior.
And to clarify, the dog is fed properly, and he is a little bit on the chubby side, not much. He has a 1 cm layer of fat on top of his ribs, which I read is ideal for a husky.
