I feed adult dogs twice a day. I use a standard 8 ounce measuring cup to measure out their food, taking into account how much exercise they are getting, and what their condition is. Too thin and I up their food a smidge. Too pudgy and I drop it down a bit. I also take how many treats (training or "here's a cookie for being cute") they've had since breakfast, and adjust their dinner accordingly.
Puppies should be fed four to two times a day, depending on the age and size. Very young and/or small puppies need to be fed four times a day. Slightly older puppies get fed three times a day. Once they are about six to eight months old, unless they are a toy or very small breed, that can be dropped to twice a day.
