Hi just wondering if anyone knows how long a dog can have stitches left in before infections start? My dog had problems giving birth during labour so had an emergency cesarean and was spayed at same time and was told to return in 2-3 week to have her stitches out that was 7 weeks ago and she still has them in, everytime i phone they tell me they cant bring her in yet as its not an emergency and due to government guidelines regarding coronavirus they are only doing emergency appointments and that she should be fine for a few more week (before anyone says i should go to a new vet,its hard as all vets are in same predicament so am really stuck on what to do next?) i just dont want her to get to the point where it turns into an emergency, im no vet but 7 weeks with stiches in seems long or am i just panicking over nothing?

youre in the UK ? Im sorry but find another vet. They are seeing dogs for routine stuff ( Ive checked several ) and this isnt just a vaccination or other routine thing this is removal of stiches after an op at which point it would be normal to do a health check.

Dont leave it phone around and get it sorted out

Yeah am in uk, they're not seeing vets for routine stuff, theyre giving treatment over counter for routine stuff to treat at home, and also doing video calls, theyre only allowing physical visits though for emergency treatment ?

Find another vet I actually know for a fact that vets will physically see dogs.

if you leave these stitches in and something goes wrong you have no come back to your old vet it will cost you a fortune and it could cost your dog a lot more so stop the delays stop the excuses get on the phone and demand treatment.
