how long can a dog hold bladder control and bowel movement

Hi: I'm a first timer on doggie forum. My son recently moved back home with his two dogs, a boston terrier and a "bug" breed. The boston is very dependant on my son for going outside, and she refuses to go out with my husband or myself. My son has been out since midnite last night and its now
4:45 the following day, and the boston hasn't gone outside yet to do her
business. Can someone kindly get back to me with some info.

Thanks so much,

I doubt the dog has been "holding it" for nearly 17 hours. I'd check around the house.

A healthy adult dog can probably hold it for 8-12 hours at the most, and they shouldn't have to.
She's little - why don't you pick her up and bring her in the yard? That's way too long for her to try and hold it --- if she is -- she can burst something!

:(

I highly doubt that. I'd give a dog max 8 hours to hold his bladder. More is just..painful for the dog I'd imagine

I can't even hold it for that long!!!
I can't even hold it for that long!!!

We aren't dogs either. We would probably hold out for about an hour before our bladders would explode :D
Well me, neither, but there are lots of dogs that can, and it lulls their owners into a false sense of complacency.

It's a bad idea and highly unfair to the dog.

My thoughts excatly! I would take the dog every hour or so just to make the dog knows you mean buisness.Don't let the dog think that he is the boss.I doubt that he held that long. They have their hiding places, under a bed, behind the couch,in a hidden corner etc.Once the the dog knows you mean buisness,he'll do his.
