i just recently adopted a mix of chihuahua and terrier, it seems to be so hyper all the time. it can't sit still when i am around. this is not my question for this topic though.

i wonder how your dog/s react when you get back home or wake up in the morning? can the dog/s leave you alone, so you can do something for yourself?

I like your user name. I am OLD; it made me LOL.

I get up at 4:30AM most mornings.. and after getting ready for work, feeding and caring for the 5 cats I go and get Atka to go for a walk. Yeah.. this time of year that means in the dark.. and we go out for a mile or a little more. She is typically asleep and looks at me as if to say, "It is awfully darn early for this walk thing.. it is dark I am curled up and I am sleeping.... "

But then she good naturedly gets up and we go for the pre-work dog walk.

When I get home at night she is quietly sitting in her crate (I trained this) and after I open the crate door, only leaves the crate when I give her permission. When we go out, she is very happy to see me.. rubs on my legs like a cat (she really needs to see dogs once in awhile.. LOL). I ignore her and so she goes off and pees (I tell her to go do this...) and then she comes back and I pet her and we head out for the After Work Walk...

I don't want her to be nutzo when I come home so I don't play into it. I ignore it. That works well for me.

In the morning she wishes she could ignore ME. :)

Blizzard gets really exited when he sees me and he can get a bit rough at times. Usually when i come home from school I'll go indoors and leave him outside till he calmes down a bit before I go outside to pat and play with him. Whenever I am with him he never leaves me alone. He'll either be licking me to death or trying to sit right on me! It can be a bit annoying at times but I guess it's just his way of showing he loves me.

When I get home my pooch has to go lay down, which usually means a really odd uncomfortable wiggle under the coffee table *lol. This keeps him calm and if I'm carrying groceries I can leave the door open while I go back and forth to the kitchen without him wandering underfoot or snooping at the open door. He used to be really excited and dance all around and it was just too much so after a few months of "go lay down' as soon as I came in the door, he got the hint *smiles*.

when I get up in the morning and go into the kitchen, my pup knows I'm not a morning person so she usually just wags her tail and waits for me to let her outside. If I go uptown and come home all within 20 min:D she's pretty excited but doesn't jump on me hardly ever because I ignore that behaviour. I think I need to get out more, after I'm home for a few minutes she then leans on me and gets lots of pets and hugs

In the mornings J.C. wakes me and the other dogs up at 5am. If he's on the bed it usually starts with him pawing at my face and little yippy barks. If's he's in his crate he will just bark. The other dogs think he's nuts, I think they'd rather sleep in some more.

When I come home and the dogs aren't crated Holy is usually the first to greet me. She greets me while wiggling and making these really funny noises. I'm the only person who she won't bark at though.
J.C. greets me with a friendly bark and tail wag... but he can't get to close to me because Holly's tail usually will just smack him around... so he's learned to stay back a little ways haha.
Shadow waits until I greet her. She just stands off to the back and let's the smaller dogs do their thing. Usually she likes to give hugs.

My previous dogs used to get very excited whenever I came home. I have taught Tilba to have seld control & won't pet her until she is sitting. Whatever you want from your dog you have to teach it. As Dr Ian Dunbar says, "don't keep the house rules a secret".

When I come home after leaving her alone for awhile, Icesis will spin in circles and hop up and down, doing what I call a 'silent scream' because she's so excited (sort of a cross between panting and whining). She'll want to get in my lap, then will hop down and start running in circles again, then come back and ask to be picked up again just to repeat the cycle. =P

At any rate, she's always beside herself with happiness. She's such a velcro dog!

If I wake up and don't pay a lot of attention to him, he'll lie on his bed looking bored. I can see his eyes just staring at me like "hey look at me! I'm so pitifully bored!"

Like he's just waiting for the moment I get done checking my early email and such.

Then when I am done (he's learned how the chair moves and the sound it makes) he'll stand up all fast, stretch, then come close, and stretch again (weird dog). Then he'll stare a hole in me waiting for me to invite him to jump up. Sometimes he's make this moan/growl sound and wag his tail mostly to the right (actually seeing the approach/avoid axis wagging I read about!) trying to get me to notice him and start the morning play session.

If I leave the house and come back and he sees me, he's sitting in his "wait for me to open the door and let him out" spot. Then he'll move out of my way and then follow me around. Of course, when I stand still - he's giving me the third degree with his sniffing.

I have a Golden, so the greeting is the same whether I've been gone all day or I've just gone out for 1 minute to check the mail. Wagging, wiggling, jumping in circles, mooing and wooing, and painting himself to my leg for the "I missed you too" pets.

When I come home I let Maddie out of her crate. She stretches and runs to the back door to go outside and potty. When she comes in is when I get my kisses and love. Pretty calm.

My husband on the other hand is a different story. I get home first and he comes home a half hour after I do. Maddie hears the truck pull in she's making all kinds of happy noises and her little pug tail is moving like crazy. The minute he opens the door she runs and jumps up into his arms and kisses him like crazy.

I never get that kind of hello! Crazy dog! She's a daddy's girl all the way.
