One of the cats has what appears hot spot on his neck from where he had fleas. ( we had them pretty bad but they are gone now thankfully!!). Is the only solution to take him to the vet for meds or is there something OTC?

I don't know about cats, but we used a "hot spot treatment" on Pepper when she was young. I found it at the local pet store. It's an all-natural product and came out in a foam.

Is it weepy/gross or kind of a dry rub spot? If it's gross, a black tea bag applied to the spot will dry it up (tannins). If it's dry, it should be fine without any treatment, as long as the fleas are gone so he won't scratch the spot more.

I wouldn't worry about it then. Unless he keeps opening it up, then you'd have to get some kind of collar to protect the area. But if the fleas are gone now it should heal soon.
