My dog had a small lump on the front of his leg,it has been there for a while. He was running and went to jump over the landscaping bricks in front of our porch and missed. He hit the front of his leg. After a few days I noticed the lump which was small, today his leg from the elbow down is huge! I am freaking out here, I have no idea what he did. Yesterday he was his usual crazy self running around like a maniac, not today. Of course it couldn`t happen at a worse time for us(no money). He seems ok but he is protecting it. Any ideas what it is or how to make him feel better would be great.

Take him to the vet's! I know it may be hard financially, but unless it's just a freak injury and nothing actually serious (and there's no way to know unless you have him checked over), no amount of home doctoring will help. Ask them if you can do a payment plan of some sort as well...

Well, I'm glad you found us, too, but what you really need is a vet - not an Internet forum.

I understand the financial issue. There have been times in my life when my dog needed medicine and I skipped my own so she could get it. But you absolutely, positively need a vet.

I agree, there is an animal clinic I took him to before that might let me bring him in. We are losing everything, just as alot of other people are but maybe they will help me. It is just so weird. He hit it months ago but for it to be this swollen he must have hit it again in the same spot or something. I am going to try a compress to see if I can get some of the swelling down. He is such an awesome dog, my youngest son found him about 6 months ago,he was a stray. Where we live people love to dump animals off. We reported it but they never catch anyone.

Well Buddy has an angel, my sons friend spent the weekend with us and his mom is a vet tech. I thought she was a groomer. She said it is abscessed and is bringing over a shot of antibiotics!! She will treat him for me. He will need antibiotics for 2 weeks. I am so relieved.
