We got a 5 year old shih tzu and have him for about a month. He was used as the sire for some breeding in years past so he was just neutered a few days before we got him. Since he has been with us he constantly pees and poops in our house. It is driving me crazy. The previous owner says that he did not do that at her house. He does not go to the bathroom in his crate, however, it feels cruel to make him stay in the crate all of the time. He doesn't play much with our other dog (jack russel/corgi mix 2 years old female). Please help... don't know how much more of this I can stand!

Dogs don't generalize well, which means that a dog who is totally housetrained in one home may forget everything it ever learned when moved to a new home.

Start over with housetraining as though this dog were a tiny puppy. Check out the sticky on the training forum and do a thread search for "housebreaking." You will find more information than you ever wanted!
