Hi! This is Stewie. He is apparently a yorkie-poo. But after meeting several other people who have a yorkie-poo,he hardly looks like one! What breed do you think he is?! People have said he looks like a cairn terrier! help!

When you cross such different breeds, especially in regards to coat, as the Yorkshire Terrier (straight and silky) and the Poodle (harsh, dense, and curly), you can get a wide range of looks. His face looks pretty Yorkie to me, and it looks like he's blue and tan, required in Yorkies but not common in Cairns. What's his coat like? It doesn't really look wiry to me, which I'd expect from a Cairn cross. Also, Poodles and Yorkies don't have undercoats, while Cairns do.

Its a Heinz 57. Coat could end up anything based on the parent gene pool mix.

Sometimes the swimmer is in the deep end of the pool, sometimes in the shallow end. Could be in-between.............

You could always spring for the dog breed DNA testing.

Otherwise, any guess is as good as any other guess.

I've never seen a cairn with both brown and blue hairs mottled together, but that doesn't mean they don't exist. Cairns do carry the genes for either color.

Whenever I try to guess a mutt's ancestry, I look at their ears, coat, tail, size, and snout - it's a highly imperfect method, but it makes me feel smart. lol.

At that size, his ears, coat, and snout say "terrier" to me. Maybe Cairn, or Norwich or Border or Yorkshire, given how perky and upright they are, but he doesn't look like any of those breeds to me. I'd guess he's some kind of a mix, probably some chihuahua in there, too.

This thread's a couple years old, and the original poster hasn't been around in about as long, so I'm closing this to further replies. Feel free to join in any of our current discussions however! Just a heads up that the 'Recommended Reading' section pulls threads from the forum's entire archived history, so you can get a lot of these old threads in there, so it's always good to double check the original posted date before replying. We'd change it if we could, but the site design is up to the owners, not the mods.
