I just noticed Lucy's left thigh is red and swollen. There is no cut or blood. There is a little strange "sac" that is lumpy. It looks like a bruise but the sac kinda freaks me out. She is being her usual self and is eating and wants to play. She seems to be walking normal, maybe a little stiffer but not much. The vet won't be opened until Monday, just wanted to get your advice. Is it just a bruise? I've never seen this before...Thanks for your input.

It looks like she got bit by something... a spider of bug. I would just keep an eye on it.

It could be a bug/spider bite so I would suggest Benedryl (liquid children's kind) I always have some on hand for the dogs here as my one BT has a reaction to everything :( ..The doseing is by weight which your vet or e-vet should be able to give you over the phone if not I can post it on here.

is it hard? is it movable? is it painful? is it warm? things to notice when examining. to check for infection remember REEDA - redness, edema (swelling), echymiosis (discoloration), drainage, and approximation (if it's an open wound are the edges next to each other or space between them).

Thanks for the responses. I took her to the Vet today and it is a Hematoma: a localized collection of blood, usually clotted, in a tissue or organ.
It looked like a bug bite but I knew this is not possible because of the cold MN weather.
I think she must've hit her leg on something when we were exercising. It is taking a long time for her body to reabsorb the blood...
