I am terribly concerned about my dog. She is a mixed breed and we have had her for seven years. My family adores her and up until recently she has been a very sweet dog. She can be fine all day, but at night recently she started viciously growling at me. Never at my kids or my husband, just me. It's scaring me! My husband comes and puts her in her crate and by morning she is back to normal.

Does anyone know why this could be happening?

A sudden, inexplicable change in behavior calls for a thorough vet checkup to make sure there isn't a medical issue. That should come first.

Dogs have quite different ways of showing pain or illness. (They don't call in sick and whine all day.)

A trip to the vet for a thorough physical, including blood work (including a full thyroid panel) is definitely a good idea whenever a dog starts showing such a marked behavior change.
