Help my dog is a jerk

My dog Indy has played well with Bear at the dog park a number of times in the past and today they started off well playing together for a while... Then Bear got tired of playing and walked away. Well, Indy off and on kept tring to goad Bear into playing with him. Indy would run up and bark in Bears face. Ocationally it worked but after a while Bear got tired and fed up and eventually attacked Indy. Indy and bear were both ok but Indy got a little minor bite/cut on his neck. Nothing serious but it could have been much worse. Bear isn't a mean dog but Indy just kept pressing bears buttons until he snapped.

Indy plays well with others. He does a very good job matching the other dogs energy level, unfortunatly that includes when a dog gets mean. Generally, He will leave alone dogs that don't want to play but he doesn't catch on when the other playful dog is done playing. Running up and barking at dogs isn't his only jerk move he also likes to grab other dogs collars...
Indy is a 40 lb jrt mix and he's great with smaller dogs and dogs his size but he really loves to pester big dogs and i afraid he's going to mess with the wrong dog again.

He has too much energy to stop going to dog parks but I'm afraid he's going to start something much worse one of these days.

That's when you step in and stop him yourself. You saw him pestering Bear repeatedly after he didn't want to play anymore... you need to act and not risk a possible fight.

When I still went to the dog park my dog would get obnoxious with some dogs who didn't want to play with him sometimes. If he did I redirected him, if he continued we left. Don't allow your dog to be a jerk.
Point well taken. I have left in the past with other dogs.
What threw me today was that half the time Bear did want to play... The other times I'd work to redirect Indy.
If your park has a small dog side, use it. And I agree that you need to step in if he is being a pest. You should be close enough to him at all times that you can put a stop to it. That means you may need to wander around close to where he is going, and keep a close eye on him. (Not that you don't now, but I see a lot of people at dog parks that turn their dogs loose, then go sit somewhere or talk to people and they don't keep an eye on what their dog is doing, or are too far away to stop problems from developing.)

We do something similar with Katie. If she starts being a pest, she gets a time out. After the third out, we go home. She's youngish, so I'm hoping she'll learn how to be more polite.
Im having the same problem with my dog, although she is great with bigger dogs that don't want to play and walk off and dogs who do want to play, if she gets any reaction from a dog, whether its barking or tring to get away from her she thinks its playing, which is often with smaller dogs, and with smaller dogs that do want to play she is a bit too rough and knocks them flying. She is getting better and i am trying to train her not to run like mad when there are dogs on the otherside of the park, which is going very well but I am having trouble with timeouts, but putting her on a lead if the other dogs are running (if they are sitting or wlaking slowly she is fine) she tries to drag me over and have to leave. Molly is over a year old and most people think she is a lot younger because of the way she acts so im not so sure she will learn
