Hello all, I apologize if this is in the wrong forum, new here. This is my sweet energetic boy Berkely. He was born towards the end of December and I got him as a rescue from a very generous individual. I was told he was "German Australian Shepard" but I can't see the Australian Shepard. He's shedding currently but ever since ive had him (mid January) his coats been about this length. He's very energetic, playful, and extremely smart. He's an ankle biter which is a trait we're currently working on breaking but that made me puzzled his breed. Although ankle biting is something most puppies do, my previous experience leads me to believe most "herding" breeds have this tendency by far. Which led me to question his breed. The German Shepard I can maybe see. He's got a little brown butt like Rottweilers do, a white tipped tail, his front legs are white while his back are a tan/brown. His eyes are black/brown but the bottom of them are a bright blue. He's absolutely handsome with all of his accents and colors. I know it's a bit challenging to identify a breed as a puppy but does anyone have any insight or input on to what he would most likely be? I just don't see the furriness of a Australian.

Cute little guy.

Black with tan points and white markings (frequently called "black tricolor") is common in Australian Shepherds, as well as Miniature American Shepherds (which were developed from the Australian Shepherd), and lots of other breeds besides. The mixed eye color is also common in both the Aussie and MAS. However, his head and coat are not typical of either breed. I would suspect a bit of terrier of some kind in the mix. I don't see any German Shepherd Dog in him at all.
