Hello,

My SO told his mother that he would bring over her Shih tzu cross dog to our house while they went away for a few nights (nice of them to let me know until tonight) He is bringing her over tomorrow. Dakota has met Emma a few times but does not greet her properly (is in her face and wants to play right away) and Emma has never been well socialized and is scared and aggressive with dogs, especially big ones. I want Dakota to behave and I want Emma to feel more secure so how about do I do it? Should I make them meet outside our yard with them both leashed first?? PLEASE I need tips!

If possible I'd have them meet in a neutral location and definitely on leash. How is Dakota's down? If he has a reliable down, meaning that when you say down, he obeys and stays in the position until released, I would put him in a down for the initial greeting so he isn't in the other dog's face. At home perhaps a judicious use of crates/ex-pens and baby gates might be a good dea.

Thanks for the reply:) It went better than I thought it would. I hooked Dakota up to the leash and bribed both of them with beef jerky:D Dakota wants to play so bad but Emma won't do it (not yet anyway) Dakota paws at her alot and it really ticks Emma off, I think my pup paws soo much cause she's used to playing with the cats and that's what they do to her and Emma's the size of my biggest cat. You can sure tell that that this little one doesn't play with other dogs, especially not used to bigger ones
