I have a 10 month puppy who I trained to ring the bell to go outside. We had a baby 3 months ago and even through the chaos he was still ringing the bell. Although sometimes we were busy and not able to open the door right away or at all (especially if he was wanting to go out for fun and not to potty). Anyway, about three weeks ago he stopped ringing the bell and now constantly whines. I have tried to ignore his whining and Have been working on retraining him and rewarding him for hitting the bell. It’s been two weeks and no progress. An ideas on what’s going on or how to handle this?

I'd just take down the bells and take him out on a schedule. Especially if he had learned to ring the bell for playtime.

After each meal, after waking from overnight sleep or a long nap, and after an indoor playtime.

At 10 months, every 4 hours while awake should be plenty, taking into consideration the above noted times when needing to potty is more likely. Overnight, probably 8 hours is fine.

Remember that as much as you are probably sleep deprived and confused by the new human, he too feels the changes in the house. Go with the simplest and most direct option, don't over complicate things.
