RonE, Thank you for the gentle reminder. I am sorry if I have crossed the boundary of Forum Rules. I only offered a suggestion to clean the area and see a Vet. NO diagnosis nor treatment was offered nor suggested.

I will refrain from suggestions to clean the area.

It could be one of several things. Have you been to the vet yet?

Not yet! We took him to the groomer to get it cleaned up to get a better look at it. I think my mom is kind of reluctant to take him until she knows or has an idea what it is.

There really isn't any point of waiting to see what random people on the internet think it could be. I'm not a vet, and even if I was, I can't diagnose something from pictures. It could be a wound caused by running into a stick in the yard. It could be a ruptured cyst. It could be a cuterebra. If could be an abscess from a spider bite. It could also be something else completely. The longer it goes untreated, though, the longer it's going to take to heal.

Forum rules do lot allow asking for, or offering, diagnoses in lieu of a vet visit. It might place your dog at risk or place the forum at risk. Please see a vet.
