We have a 15 week old Australian Shepherd puppy. We are having alot of issues with housebreaking. He will hold it all night and then go outside and I will give him treats but most of the time I take him outside and he wont' go and then he comes inside and and poops and pees in the house. I thought these dogs were smart and that he would learn fast but it doesnt' seem to be that way. We always give him treats when he goes outside and have since we got him at 8 weeks old. I don't know if crate training will work since I thougth was taught to teach them to hold it but he can already do that? Any suggestions? Thank you.

Take a look at the Sticky: Enough with the Potty Threads. It has some GREAT tips, and give many difference experiences similar to yours.

One thing I can suggest is when he doesn't go outside, bring him back in and put him in his crate - repeat every 5 minutes to ensure he knows that peeing happens outside! Out for 5 minutes no pee/poo back in the crate for 3-5 minutes. Do so until the puppy has gone outside.

Continue treating and praising when he goes outside. He will get it :)
