Mods, sorry if this topic isn't allowed, feel free to delete if it isn't.

My dog doesn't seem to really know when I'm drunk, but I swear, when I take an edible and get high, she stares straight into my soul as if she is judging me.

Your dog knows everything. Period. They even know if you have an infection and know if you have cancer. Their sense of smell has been used to detect cancer and infection.

They might not show it, but all of that "stuff" such as getting high or getting drunk impacts your dog (cats too). They can sense altered brain function and altered brain waves. I suspect they know and are mistrustful of you when this is going on.

I had a dog years ago that would growl and move off from a person on Dilantin (to prevent seizures after having a severe head injury). When that person went off Dilantin the dog was fine with them.

Your dog is wondering where her owner went. Basically like "Elvis has left the building".

It's probably not a good look to project, from not just your dog's viewpoint but from everyone else's too.

Dogs sense of smell is over 1000× stronger than humans so they can definitely smell the alcohol on your breath and probably sweating out of the pores in your skin so they know something is up. Dogs are also pretty tuned in to their owners emotions so I think they have a pretty good idea that something is different and if they can accosiate that with alcohol smell they will know when you're getting on the sauce.

Yeah, my dogs know when I'm drunk. And they take advantage. That is the only time "Dad" ever plays with them, like rolling in the dirt letting them jump and slobber. Otherwise "dad" is all business.
