HI, I will be getting a puppy this Saturday, she is a german shepherd mix. I want to know if I comb her once or twice a day, will there still be a lot of hair that comes off of her or very very very VERY little? lol. I bought the furbuster grooming comb from walmart which I guess is like the furminator, so hopefully this will make it easier to groom her.

Congratulations on your soon to be new addition! There will be an abundance of shedding as the puppy matures into adult coat. For the next several months you won't have to worry. Using a brush or comb now will help in the future when it really serves a purpose. Play with the feet(security in doing nail) and touch the face(teeth cleaning). Talk to people regarding puppy socialization classes as all of this will make home grooming easier for you when the time comes.

If she's amix there's no real way to tell but if she takes after her GSD side expect a lot of hair. GSDs are often called German Shedders by those that love 'em. LOL
Yup, yup! I love my "German Shedders" but, as skelaki said, if your dog takes anything after the GSD expect LOTS of hair. I brush mine every day at feeding time and keep a brush next to the chair I sit in while watching TV. Whoever sits next to me get brushed while I'm watching. Oh, and I keep a small plastic bag there as well to put the hair in. Needless to say, it's always full. :p
I have a saying in my house, and for good reason; "What do you mean dog hair isn't a condiment or fashion accessory?" :D

lol thanks for all the replies..... yeah I can't stand dog hair all over the house:p My in-laws have two chihuahua's, one long haired and one short and they shed a lot of hair:mad: Well she does have some long fuzzy looking hair and she does have the colors of a GSD so I'm guessing I am in for a treat lol. Oh and do any of those shed control shampoo's actually work?

Allie sheds a ton (she a german shepherd mix). If I am good about brushing her every day and vacuuming at least every other day the hair is kept in check. If I slack though there is hair everywhere within a few days. Today she got a bath and a really good brush out and I got enough hair off of her to make a small dog, lol. I have found just a basic greyhound comb does a great job at keeping up with the hair. I also have a mars coatking that I use once in awhile but I don't like to use it to often because I am afraid of damaging her topcoat.
