We are into our 24 hours of daylight part of the summer here and Lucifer my lab has decided that if its light out mommy should be awake !! He woke up at 3 am, 5 am, and again at 7 am to go outside. I know he doesnt have to go potty and just wants to play but the long days are confusing the poor guy !! Never had this problem with my little ones Sophie and Guapo.

You poor soul! What to do? I have no clue ... Eddee wakes me invariably every single morning at 6:15 with a face wash ... and I have no reason to get up! I would really appreciate being able to sleep until at least 7am! Lol! :)

Wonder if you could find a way to have a kong ready to toss at him to work on the first time he wakes you up ... so you could go back to sleep? Maybe have it ready in a drawer near your bed?
I may come across as being really dumb here, but where are you that there is 24 hours of sunlight? *so embarressed that I should probably know this lol*
That is where some German style roll down storm shutters on your windows would come in handy.

No he wants to go outside!! He usually sleeps till about 8 am then spends most of his day outside ( his choice ) . I have black out curtains but they dont seem to work for him. He has shown no interest in his Kongs but LOVES empty milk cartons so I toss them outside and he plays with them for hours. Oh and he loves his tennis balls but if I leave them out when we are not playing fetch he chews them up.

I just googled it and I had no idea, although I think I did see it going on in a movie (The Proposal) and I wondered why everyone was in bed and it was still daytime lol...my chickens and other farm animals would go crazy! lol.Sounds like you are in the perfect place for some shutters. We have them on all of our bedroom windows so that we arent all woken up by the sunrising at 6am each morning.I´m surprised they arent the norm where you live ;) It must be really weird to go to bed whilst it´s still light outside,I bet it takes alot of getting used to.

I have dark curtains on he bedroom windows and I have no problem sleeping this time of year its just Lucifer. Now I did have chickens once upon a time and my rooster would be cockadoodledooinnn all day and night !!
ok this is sooo not fair .....its almost summer solstice ( longest day of the year ) and Lucifer is still waking me up early but then he comes back in and sleeps all day. I wanna sleep all day too instead of being dead dog ( pun intended ) tired all day. I wonder if he would wear a sleep mask ?? though I think its not even so much the daylight but also the birds that start chirping about 3 am.
I feel your pain!!

I'm assuming he doesn't sleep in a crate? Maybe if he is ok with it, you could put him in a crate and put a blanket over it to block out the sunlight...kind of like putting a blanket over a birdcage!

Or start taking power naps....lots of power naps. And coffee....

I rescued him at a year and a half old and he was never crate trained he usually sleeps on my bed along with the other 2 dogs and 3 cats. My Dr has me cut off of caffienne though I do cheat once in awhile.
ok its now 4 am the sun is up, the birds are singing and once again Lucifer is ready to go play !!! Summer solstice was the other day so at least we are now losing daylight ( a couple minutes a day)> I bought a sleep mask but them darn birds just won't shut up !!! Even the cats are giving me dirty looks for disturbing thier sleep !! Maybe I should just go fishin. They say the early bird gets the worm but I dont think they meant THIS early .
My suggestion was buy a sleeping mask for the dog too, but I black-out curtains would be best. My husband works a funky 2nd shift, he gets off at 2 AM, and he can't sleep if its light out. I've suggested he get a sleeping mask, but he doesn't like anything restricting around his face when he sleeps. So we have these curtains that block out all the light in the bedroom.

Another vote for blackout curtains!

I have thought about a mask for Lucifer but I don't think he would wear it lol. And there are still them pesky birds making all that racket. Then of course as soon as I was almost asleep ( almost 6 am ) the cats decided to do zoomie laps through the house using me as a launch pad !! Of course NOW Lucifer is SOUND ASLEEP !!!
