Hey everyone, I'm new to the forum.
I have an eight-month-old Pomeranian whom I love to death. I basically spend all my free time with him and take him everywhere. My spouse likes to joke to other people that *I* have separation anxiety, lol!
Anyway, speaking of separation anxiety, I'm hoping you can give me your opinions on this. I did my research and have been really good about making sure my pup is okay on his own. He doesn't show any signs of stress when I leave or get excited when I get back, etc etc. All in all, he's a pretty well adjusted pup. EXCEPT...
I often like to take him for a long walk which starts by heading to the nearest Starbucks for my morning Americano. I'm convinced he will be stolen (because he's so perfect and adorable and everybody must love my dog as much as I do!) and rush in and out of the store, always keeping visual contact with him. When I do this, whether I've left him alone or with someone else watching him, he will squeak and squawk for me until I come back.
Secondly, while he's very friendly with other people and has learned to tolerate being picked up by friends and strangers alike, if he thinks that they intend to hold on to him for an extended period of time (for example, if we're sitting on the couch and my friend is holding him), he will look towards me and whimper and/or struggle like a madman to get back to my lap. I was thinking I would start practicing with giving him treats when sitting calmly in other people's laps.
Obviously he's very attached to me. But do you think this is a bit unhealthily so? What should I do about him crying when left outside for 2 minutes?
