My lab mix has been showing signs of allergies for the last year with itchy skin, some digestive issues, and reoccurring ear infections. He is currently on royal canine gastrointestinal prescription food. We have determined that he does not have a gastrointestinal disorder, but now we are dealing with the 4th ear infection within the last year. So I want to try switching him to another food with a different protein. And before anyone jumps down my throat, I am already in communication with my vet.

I am looking for a grain inclusive food that is not a chicken based protein. My vet recommended trying to avoid grain free foods. He is also a large breed in case that matters.

Any recommendations would be great!

Lots of Pro Plan fans on the forum, including me.

My little guy is on Pro Plan weight management (because he's not quite as little as he should be) and my old girl is on Pro Plan senior.

I feed Pro Plan Sensitive Skin and Stomach Salmon and Rice formula. My soon to be nine years old GSD has what my vet and I believe to be environmental allergies, and she has a loooong history of ear infections, and this is the food that she seems to do best on. She also takes a half-dose of Apoquel daily, and if she has a flare up (usually at the same time mine are flaring) I up it to a full dose.

I used the help of a veterinarian. He helped me a lot in choosing dog food. The vet advised me to use a special food with additives https://petsmatters.net he also said that this food has a lot of vitomins and useful substances for dogs. The main conclusion that I made is that it is important to change the food, to make a variety. Use this food and also porridge. From my experience I would say that I have a very energetic and healthy dog. If you're not sure, it is best to talk to specialists and veterinarians. I am lucky that in our city there are experienced specialists who love animals:)
