It was about what I thought it would be. Thought she'd have some Rhodesian RB and Chow in there some place...but it came back with:
75+% Lab
~ 15% German Shepherd
~ 10% Weimaraner

The Lab definitely explains the loving, playful, people pleasing, food loving side of her. The GSD would be the protectiveness, intense "thinking" and love of trying to figure things out...and the Weim. explains the need to track EVERY scent she comes across. Unfortunately all these breeds have hip/knee problems (like just about every larger breed dog I guess).

Kinda neat anyway! A part of me was expecting them to tell me she was Great Dane and Chiuauah (I 'm pretty sure I spelled that wrong) or something ridiculous! :D

Thanks for the recommendation for BioPet...I think they did a decent job!

I'm not trying to start a fight, I'm honestly curious. Why do people get these tests done?

Exactly - curiosity...for the "fun" of it...just to see what they come back with. If it was going to cost me hundreds of dollars (it was actually only $40) I wouldn't even thought of doing it...but I've always been curious. No NEED to do it...it's a "just because" thing :D

It says nothing for "pure bred" dogs...because they are all made up of different breeds somewhere along the line...it's for the good ol' mutt. :p

I know my lab most likely is not purbred .... I rescued the poor pup when she was just a tad under 6 weeks old .... the people were going to 'put her in a meat grinder' and make dog food of her if they did not get rid of the pups ....

she is 9 weeks tomorrow and is learning alot by clicker training ... just wondering what all she has in her .... not for breeding purposes (im sure some do DNA for that) ... but i was just curious .... no matter what it would not change how much I love her!!!

there were a total of 6 pups ... and other people snagged up the others as well .... i was going to take em all ... she was the runt and the only pure black one ....

I know it was early to be away from the litter mates but what can one do ... when a puppy is doomed for the meat grinder?

who did you go through to get it done if you dont mind me asking

Yes, I suppose if you have behavorial or medical concerns about your "GOM" (Good Ol Mutt) it may give some insight - BUT...most mutts have so much of a mix in them it may not pinpoint anything. I just did it because I'm nosey...Bella sure didn't care!

I went through BioPet...they will give you retailers to order it through. You receive a couple of swabs, take a sample from the cheeks (I did it first thing in the morning before she put anything in her mouth) and send it back. I got her results about 2 weeks later.

If the pics uploaded right, I have some of her here...someplace...LOL

I think I posted the pics right...? You should be able to go into my profile and go to "albums"....let me know if it works? I found it okay...but maybe it isn't "out there"... (bad computer lingo.....LOL)

I LOVE looking at everyone's pets...they are THE BEST! Beats looking at the akward guy trying to float on a raft on Aunt Mary's lake or something...ROFL

Wow she's a beauty :D I can see why you would have guessed Rhodesian. Though I'd also make an argument that maybe there's some bully breed in there too. She's quite a looker. Reminds me of MacNRoe's Roe.

I guess I've just never understood why that mattered. Maybe I'm just not the inquisitive sort. To each his own.
It doesn't matter (to me anyway)...I love her no matter what she is (my little Bella Butt Cheeks :D). People always ask me what "breed" she is...they always guessed Rhodesian RB...I told them, "I think she has a little in her" (but usually they have their furry family member with them....so she had the stiff "I'm curious" ridge along her back), so I was curious too....now I can say she is "this, this and that" instead of..."Hmmm....I dunno?"

Although I'm a little bummed that the mystery is gone...but it was pretty darn close to what I knew anyway.

How much does she weigh...she is quite the beauty. I love the nick name Bella Butt Cheeks! Glad she doesn't really know what you are saying except that you love her when you call her that! How old is she?
Thanks, Alpha!

I love her little furry butt cheeks - they make me smile! :D I can only imagine the love parents feel for their kids...she is my one and only "child"

She is just over 2 yrs. Starting to calm down a little. I used to post here all the time when she was going through the terrible "baby" stage...I was freaked out a bit. She weighs about 60 lbs - she should be 58-ish...but it's been a cruddy winter!

HEY! She looks a LOT like Roe! With the exception for the tail, and she looks a little taller than Roe...they DEFINITELY favor each other. I did the DNA test because I was SOOOO curious and was pretty much obsessed at looking at pictures of different dogs. I needed my life back :D I did the blood test (Wisdom Panel) because it offered more breed in their list. I'd love to do it again, just for the fun and see if it comes back the same....but I don't have $$$ to throw around. I did Mac, interested to see if Roe's would come back the same.

Bella is gorgeous!

I did the DNA test also from biopet and we too just did it for fun. I didnt care what she came back as I just wanted to see. I think if it will change the way you feel about your dog you Should NEVER think of doing this. But if you do it for fun and just so when everyone in the entire world that you ever run into asks what breed it you dog and you just want something other than I dont know to say than why not. Like stated before it is only like $40- and its all in good fun....

I was doing the same thing...it was ruling my life. There's the "inquisitive" and then there's us "obsessive" types! LOL
I always told her she was half Yellow Luv and half Pain in the Butt =)
She soooo has a Roe face (maybe the lab got Weimaraner and RRB mixed up!?) If I had an extra $40.00 I didn't know what to do with I'd do it again, too - just to see how accurate the are.

Roe is one good lookin' dog, too! Cutie!
:D
