From what I understand it's a random somatic cell mutation that causes the 'ee' cells to mutate to 'Ee'. You can also get a similar look from a chimera (individual with different sets of DNA in its cells. I'm really bad at explaining things)

I've seen the pattern before. What causes it? They remind me of African wild dogs lol.
I've heard it has something to do with somatic mutation but don't know exactly which genes are mutating. Somatic mutation is mutation after conception, and so is entirely random and not hereditary in any way and therefore is hard to study.

EDIT: Sorry Laurelin, posted before I scrolled to yours. It's not just you, the subject is ridiculously hard to explain.

I remember when I was reading a wikipedia page on Dalmatians it said that they can sometimes come up as mosaics.
Yeah but with Dals its usually just a single spot of a different color.

I think I see ticking on the legs? Would that indicate that the dog is white and black and not yellow?
I think those are spots on the skin showing through the coat, but not sure too hard to tell.
