My pup has been having some intestinal (loose stools) issues that we are trying to resolve. I have him on chicken and rice and have been mixing in Science Diet ID at the vet's suggestion. I know this is a crappy food, but not sure what to replace it with. We currently feed grain free Acana. Any suggestions? I would prefer a kibble over a wet food.

Was he eating anything else besides the Acana that could have caused loose stool issues?

I don't like SD either but if it gets your dogs stomach in order, it may be worth it to feed a bag and then slowly transition to something else.

Jackson has always had the best luck with Acana so we stick with it. Have you looked into their Singles line -- Lamb & Apple or Duck & Pear? Single source protein, one grain (oats), very simple.

I would consider something like that. Right now we are back to broiled hamburger and rice, some probiotics and raw goat's milk. Once we have some solid poop, I think I will try Fromm's large breed puppy since it doesn't contain chicken. I think a puppy food may be best. I think a all life stage food might be too much right now.

This is a problem we are having as my smaller dog (and to a lesser extent the big dog) is having plenty of gastro-intestinal issues. My vet recommended two weeks minimum of plain bland food (we are feeding royal canin gastro-intestinal) and then a slow transition to another food. We are going to transition over a month. I am going to try a hypoallergenic/limited ingredient food next with a lower fat content to see if that helps as my girls are prone to easy gastro-intestinal upset.
