Flea & Tick? When to start & what brand?

I know I should have asked the vet this question on my last visit but of course it completely slipped my mind

Any recommendations for a flea & tick preventative for my CKCS/Bichon puppy? I live in New England so ticks are a concern.

Also, should I begin treatment right away (Bailey is 5 months) or wait until the weather gets a bit warmer? I know that's probably a stupid question but forgive me, I'm new to all of this.

I'm in Mass, and I use Frontline Plus on my Pug. My vet recommends it year round, but I stop using it from November - March. I just gave her her first dose of the year yesterday.

My friend just last week pulled 3 ticks off of her lab:eek:, so they're out there! My dog doesn't spend that much time outside as I do not have a fenced in yard, but it scares me nonetheless. I hate bugs and would freak if I found one on her! The weather here is crazy, so I'm not chancing anything.

FYI: make sure you have your dogs correct weight, and order online to save money. Both ryanspet.com and Drs. Foster & Smith have good deals on preventative.

Your pups a cutie by the way!
I do frontline plus year round on mine. But we attend classes at our local club and I work for a vet so they are at a higher risk of exposure during the winter months.
Thank you. I'll order some today :)
Take a look at the fleas and ticks seasonal map: Fleas and Ticks Map for rough guidance, your mileage may vary :)
I've decided to use BioSpot. Looks like a good solution for an Aussie Pup.
