Both my male and female American Bulldogs have been "fixed", but I caught them in the backyard trying to mate. I didn't expect this to happen, so I broke it up.

I don't want any problems with their relationship, whether it be towards one another or a change in behavior altogether. They've always been best of friends. The male is 3 years old and she is just turning 1. He has always looked out for her and I saw it as a "Big Brother/Little Sister" relationship. I guess I was wrong.

What do I do? Should I let them continue and just mind my own business or do I step in and separate them?

When you get tied, you have to stop having sex....no more for you! Just kidding...it's perfectly natural. Dogs practice all the life skills of chasing, take downs, dominance, submission, sex and they often switch roles (chaser/chasee, etc.).
